The Dears @ Rough Trade East London

The theme of Rough Trade shows seems to be deers or dears for that matter. After the Deerhunter show a few weeks ago I've been keeping a close eye out for the next free in store. I missed the Of Montreal gig but made it back to see The Dears last night. There were some sound issues again. This time with a faulty mic cord, not as major as the 10 min fiasco last time

The crowd was a lot smaller than the gig on Saturday which was nice because it was easier to move around. I had some camera problems related to a new vertical grip I was using so I only got about 10 shots. It's an interesting dynamic at Rough Trade because the stage is really small. On top of that the crowd is basically right in the middle of the action too.

The gig was good with a short but powerful set. Mid set they seemed to catch a bit more energy and the last few songs finished strong. We met another photog that has some great pics posted over at crazybobbles. Nothing beats a good band playing a free show in a small venue. I really hope the indie record stores like Rough Trade and Easy Street continue to find their niche in the ever growing online market.

The Dears tour is just headed for the US so if you have a chance to catch a full set it would be well worth it. Hopefully before the Neumo's show in Seattle you can catch them at the Queen Anne Easy Street too.
